If you have browsed the website for the 2010 MAC/MLA Annual Meeting you may have noticed a ‘Panel Discussion’ on the schedule. The discussion will focus on how to incorporate research into our work. Common questions and problems encountered during the research process will be discussed. Audience participation will be encouraged throughout the session. Participating panelists are:
Lois Culler is the Director of the Health Sciences Library at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Among other things, she has been the project director for a NLM Southeast Atlantic Region Featured Project in 2008 for a health literacy initiative. Lois was awarded a 2009 HLS/MLA Professional Development Grant for a research project to survey and determine methods for educating patrons and hospital staff. You can read more about her health literacy initiative project here: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/lo/profiles08/sea.html
Sheila Snow-Croft is the Outreach Education Coordinator for the NN/LM Southeastern Atlantic Region. Her interests include access to health information, evidence based librarianship and healthcare, public health, and distance education. She will be teaching Grant Proposal Writing at MAC, so you can read more about her on the conference website: http://www.ecu.edu/remoteScripts/dhs/macmla2010/speakers.html
Barbara Wildemuth is Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at SILS at the University of North Carolina, where she teaches classes on research, among other things. She recently published an excellent book, ‘Applications of Social Research Methods to Questions in Information and Library Science’, which will be for sale (20% discount!) and she will be on-hand to sign. Take a look at her webpage: http://www.ils.unc.edu/~wildem/wildemuth.html
We hope to see you there!
